Denbigh Asylum, North Wales

After spending a couple of days in north Wales it was good to finally visit this place with Rookie and Appo.
After getting inside and bumping into some locals, they turned out quite helpful. They told us bits about the place and how they used to get pissed and stay the night. We saw them various times and were sat outside with a police scanner, they said they would give us a shout if anyone was on the way.

The North Wales Hospital (Denbigh Asylum) was built between 1844 and 1848 and was the first Lunatic Asylum in Wales. After various expansions and overcrowding in other sites Denbigh at full capacity had 1,500 patients and 1,000 staff. In 1960 Enoch Powell the Minister of Health visited Denbigh and this was the start of the end for Denbigh.
Due to its size a 10 year programme was put in place to shut Denbigh in 1987, The Main building was shut down in 1995 and the whole site in 2002.

After a couple of hours the need for food was ever present, so we jumped in the car and headed down into Denbigh!
