Goyt Valley/Middleton Mine, Derbyshire

This trip started outside all saints park with the boot already full on Jim’s car, after the crew (Nckt, Rookie, Appo & JimGillette) had gathered and piled into the car we set off in search for a supermarket and then into the Goyt valley.

After driving down to Buxton in the morning and having no luck finding anything better than a subway we headed over to Middleton.
Middleton mine is the only Limestone mine in the UK and is approximately 22 Miles in length spread over three levels, originally the mine was used for Lead mining but some time in the early 1900’s became a limestone mine. The mine finally closed in 2001 and most of the mining equipment was removed.
After spending two and a half hours underground we yearned for fresh air and some more food!
