Excelsior Printing and Bookbinding Works, Manchester

We saw this place a while back whilst in search for something else, but didn’t think much of it. Someone dropped me a PM so we set out for a wander.
The Excelsior Printing and Bookbinding Works was originally opened on the Monday 4th July 1870 with Mr John Heywood owning the property. At the time the works could employ up to 750 people and was one of the largest of its kind.
In the late 80’s the site was used by Clare Tooling Systems. They left the site a couple of years ago however many of their documents and small pieces of machinery have been left behind.
They specialised in milling, routing and other tooling machines and equipment.

  1. We have included your blog in our guide Around The World.

The guide is both a record of old blogs and a listing of new blogs. Although originally arising from the “City Daily Photo Blog” lists this is an independent publication. Inclusion here does not imply that a blog qualifies for nor is officially a CDPB. Our criteria are that photographs mainly from and related to a specific geographical location (not necessarily a “city” but usually more specific than a whole country or region) are posted at dated intervals (not necessarily daily) and archives are kept which are readily searchable by date.

Please keep us informed of any changes to your details.
